"Kara Kesselring & Sugarcreek Road prove that a collection of great songs can be a spirited journey home. This album has all the sweet storytelling, gorgeous vocals, and top-notch musicianship, that a satisfying drive across country needs. A great listen!"
As I reflect on this project, I realize my songs come out in many different genres. They tend to be either in a folk/americana vain which taps into the nostalgia of my rural Iowa roots, or the darker, jazz/pop side that has an edgier nature. The juxtaposition of these styles remind me of a saying that my family has been using for years. "Hurry up and relax". The counter intuitive title often is a reflection of my constant need for balance. I struggle with being a professional singer, pianist, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend, an educator, a writer. I have been performing many of these songs for years and it's a treat to have them recorded. Others have been bouncing around in my head and with the help of Chris Cash and workshopping with Patrick Williams and the other talented crew of musicians, a handful of these songs are fresh off the press and have not been performed live. Songs about love, loss, aging, and humorous reflections on the past and present. Enjoy!
Sugarcreek Road brings a unique mixture of styles together, including folk, pop, country, Americana, and gospel, to create a sound that is as raw and compelling as America itself. Powerhouse vocals ring as Sugarcreek Road performs energetic originals, traditional gospel, and obscure covers.
The group is comprised of noted Chicago musicians: Kara Kesselring, Ryan Hinshaw, Patrick Williams,Chris Cash and Rob Anderlik. Their common love for this genre of music brought them together, with a focus on performing originals, standard gospel tunes, and obscure covers. The close four part vocal harmonies, and diverse blend of instrumentation, make them unique.
