Ask Another RoadSide Attraction anything...

Q: There is some really complex string stuff going on in the music; surely some (all?) of you have formal music training?

A: Thanks for your question! Richard took some music theory classes at Virginia Commonwealth University. Also he had private violin lessons, starting at the age of 26, with three teachers. Two were classically trained violinists and one who played swing, traditional jazz and other fiddle styles. Joy learned the flute all through middle school to high school, and then very occasional piano and guitar lessons. And Meredith studied at the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa for awhile and had formal lessons with the viola since she was 13 or so. She taught herself cello a couple years ago. Jordan, Lucy and Charlie are all self taught (aside from a guitar lesson here and there). They come from musical families and grew up with many influences and informal teachers. Hope to see you later on down the road! Thanks for listening and take care!
