““Since I could reach the piano keys I have been playing music,” Jessie Houghton said. Houghton performed Friday, June 3, at Yakima’s Northtown Coffee Co. She has never been happy doing anything else and her family supports her. “It’s my grandma’s dream that I become a rockstar,” she said. “She knew a bar owner who said I could come down and play, I got there and he didn’t actually say I could.” The owner agreed to let her play anyway, and she began her performing career. Yakima is just the beginning for Houghton. Early June she began her trek across the United States. “We are doing a year-long tour in every state.” Houghton and her manager are taking the trip across the country with minimal equipment in a little red truck. “We are only coming home for Christmas,” she said, “hopefully.” Houghton was only one of several acts performing on “First Friday” in downtown. ”
