“A PAIR of kind-hearted buskers have completed a mammoth fund-raising mission to raise money for sick children. Derek Allan, of Broomhill, and Jason Vare – aka Shaggy – from Bedlington, embarked on an epic gigathon, to play 100 gigs in 100 days. Their massive effort, in aid of children’s hospices across the UK – including Grace House North East Children’s Hospice Appeal – came to an end last month, The pair, who are known as acoustic duo We Steal Flyers, started the crusade on February 1 this year and played a gig every day, before bringing up the century and completing the feat on May 11 at The Trap in North Broomhill. And Derek says the musical challenge – which saw them play throughout Northumberland and beyond, including Yorkshire and performances in Switzerland, as well as a host of online gigs, including on blogTV – has helped raise more than £2,000.”

“TWO buskers are set to embark on a mega musical marathon to raise money for sick children. Derek Allan and Jason Vare, aka Shaggy, of Bedlington, are gearing up to play 100 gigs in 100 days. Their venture, in aid of children’s hospices across the UK – including Grace House North East Children’s Hospice Appeal – starts next week and finishes in May. But with a few of the tour dates still not booked, the pair – who go by the name of We Steal Flyers – are still looking for a number of venues. Father-of-three Derek said: “We Steal Flyers are going to continue their mission to help raise money and awareness for children’s hospices across the UK. “We are going to be doing a gig, daily, for 100 days in a row. “The majority of the days are booked up but we still need to book a number of venues, so if there are any venues who want to host a gig and anyone out there who wants to help, please get in touch.”.”

“A MUSIC duo from the north east are coming to Huddersfield as part of a ‘100 gigs in 100 days’ charity marathon. The gigs are busker style and people need to throw a donation in. The group is Derek Allan and Jason Vare. Derek’s wife, Mel, said: “It has been a gruelling tour and they are now drinking a mix of honey and lemon just to keep their voices intact. “Their bodies are tired and their fingers are in bits from all of the strumming but they are keeping it going.’’ The Huddersfield gig dates are the Golden Cock, Farnley Tyas today; the Bridge Tavern on Woodhead Road, Holmebridge tomorrow; The Cellar Bar, Station Road, Batley, on Friday and The Rose and Crown at The Village, Thurstonland on Saturday. All these gigs start at 8pm ”
