Tunnelmental Experimental Assembly (T.E.A.) is far from the unimaginative EDM music that can come from too much repetition of mantras, or overly played vocalizations. Maybe it’s the product of their transatlantic existence, operating principally in London and Los Angeles, and doing whatever it takes to get over jet lag. Whatever that may be, their sound abounds in imagination, wit and wisdom. Without overly typing, Tunnelmental Experimental Assembly makes dance music for adults, or mostly adults, or more sophisticated teens.
Theme and title aren’t always obviously intertwined either. Assembly derive their style from a variety of sources, but there are clear themes ranging from the 80s, 90s and early 00s, what may be defined as the pinnacle periods of dance culture. The is evidenced in their ability to play with sound and music history equally well, relying more on what “feels” good, than always necessarily what makes musical sense.
There isn’t much not to like about this rich and varied exercise in what moves and grooves us. Tunnelmental Experimental Assembly are a band to be cherished for their risk, as their unflinching ambition to create quality dance music. These are tunes that will keep your head busy, while you feet play catch up all night long.
