Drew Chapin Memorial Jazz Concert and Jam Session! Area jazz musicians will perform a free jazz concert and jam session at the Grayslake Central Park Pavilion. The community is invited to attend, and area jazz musicians are invited to join the jam session. Though the concert is free, attendees will be invited to make a free will donation to the Drew Chapin Scholarship Fund. Donations are accepted any time through the online store at Grayslake Community High School: https://grayslake127.revtrak.net/tek9.asp?pg=products&specific=johmfnj8 Anchoring the jazz combo are Tony Bassone--percussion, Paul Nielsen--upright bass, and Bill Chapin—keyboard. Students from the Grayslake Jazz Combo Workshop and musical friends and community members will also perform. Funds raised at the event are donated to the Drew Chapin Memorial Scholarship for Change, which memorializes Drew Chapin, now deceased, a 2003 graduate of GCHS who lived his life consciously and was committed to family, the pursuit of knowledge, respect for all persons and cultures, peace, and celebrating life. He was also a jazz enthusiast, who played piano and bass. The scholarship honors Grayslake Central High seniors who are knowledgeable about national and international social problems and have a personal philosophy about what actions they might take to improve some aspect of our world. Recipients receive a $2,000 stipend.
