Thor Jensen / Press

“Back home after an extended national tour as the lead guitarist for Americana band Quiet Life, Thor Jensen can refocus on his most recent project: the clever and compelling Thor Jensen Jazz Organization. Joined by guitarist Tom Foley, flutist Ashley Crawford, bassist Eric Spoldi and trumpeter Scott Crawford, Jensen explores the contemporary and historical jazz repertoire - as well as original music - through the prism of gypsy jazz and hard swing. Given the constraints of his recent travel schedule, Jensen says he's very impressed and happy at how well the Organization rehearsals are going, and he describes fluid exchanges of musical ideas that expand the idea of "playing tunes" into the realm fertile realm of empathetic improv. The band's second-ever gig takes place Friday at the Knickerbocker Cafe in Westerly, and anticipate free-range explorations on material ranging from Django Reinhardt to Gonzalo Bergara. - RICK KOSTER”

“Jensen is able to fill the intimate room with such power and preciseness that one would think the rest of his band is hiding somewhere.”
