“Lead singer-songwriter Joe Caravella adds his own homespun take on power pop with his new album, as the jangling Rickenbacker is joined by grungy guitar rhythms on “Lodi Smiles.” The harmonies on “Prize” is a strong homage to Badfinger in tone an “Nothing Comes Around” boasts unique chord progressions in the chorus. You’ll hear influences from Pearl Jam, Extreme and The Beatles, of course. Joe has a more standard power pop tune with the mid tempo “Beside Me (Mary’s Song)” & the ballad “The Last Words” reminds me of Gary Cherone’s acoustic work. Joe’s vocals are clear and deep, similar in style to Rob Grill (The Grass Roots) on “Not So Lonely” & “If You Think You Can.” The Reign don’t stay stuck in a single style either, although it leans heavily on early 70’s classic rock. At a long 16 tracks you get plenty of bang for your buck, & though it tends to wander into long jams & awkward psychedelics toward the end. Definitely worth exploring, as the”

“THE REIGN The Long Wait (F.R.O.G) Since I listened to some alternative as well as extreme metal in the mid-90s I probably would have gotten into this if it was released around this time. I was reminded more strongly of New York City alternative, I hear similar inspiration in alternative here, & subtle inspiration from the Beatles & Rolling Stones (particularly the vocal harmonies & sometimes psychedelic guitar progressions. Occasionally I hear hints of Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains & even Black Sabbath. These days the mainstream industry is incredibly narrow minded (unless you’re dealing with well-established artists) with too much being immediately written off because it’s not “popular” or doesn’t rehash the same tired pop formula. But at least this band makes an effort to be inventive while appealing to above ground listeners. (Nothing Comes Around & Forever Leads To Nothing are examples of this). All the sixteen tracks of The Reign’s The Long Wait are tightly arranged (Edi”

“Joe Caravella opened the show, performing on acoustic guitar. Joe is not a heavy metal artist, but the head of power-pop. The Reign. Joe's powerful, soulful voice, backed by foot stomping guitar rhythms got my attention. Much of his set was comprised of songs from The Reign's forthcoming album "The Long Wait", interspersed with pop-rock covers like Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and a daring acoustic "Runaway" by Bon Jovi. One of Joe's songs that especially caught my ear was "Prize", and this headbanger will definitely be venturing into the power-pop and riding the "Pizza Train" when it leaves the station later this year. ”

"Lodi Smiles" "Review" head noddingly good A good in your face start that continues and keeps your attention up to the end of a great short rock tune. Is it live, 'cause it sounds great? The arrangement gels and the guitars and drums have me nodding me head. Extra Credit: Production.
