The Pinetop Revival / Press

“The Pine Top Revival Band On Tuesday evening, all those that attended the Travelers Rest Historical Society meeting held at City Hall were treated to a special performance by the The Pine Top Revival Band. The band, consisting of Dan Wood, Dawn and Steve Cantrell, and Josh Johnson, entertained the crowd with their music, which is often referred to as “old-time” and pre-dates bluegrass by as many as 200 years. Mostly, it's the music you would have heard around northern Greenville County as early as when the first settlers arrived up until the time the boys came back from the War Between the States. In addition to playing, the band talked about the music of this area, how musical instruments became available here, and the influence of radio on the kind of music that folk enjoyed. As Dan said during his narration, “We’re serious musicians, we’re not just four pretty faces sitting up here!” We’ll definitely hear more from this newly formed band in the days to come!”
