The Kennedys / Press

"FOUR STARS!  West is that rare CD, an album that will lift a listener’s spirit with a baker dozen’s worth of songs that crisscross the musical spectrum. To borrow a baseball term, the Pete and Maura Kennedy hit the sweet spot with this collection."

““West” is a gem of an album; thirteen varied and beautifully-crafted songs played and sung with taste and sensitivity by two very gifted people...I haven’t heard a better album in a long time.” 5 out of 5 stars.”

“The Kennedys are worthy of the title First Couple of American Folk and Americana.”

“”The Kennedys are celebrating the release of their latest album, “West,” an inspired collection of sixties-flecked folk rock full of broad vistas.””

The New Yorker

““With their jangly 12-string melodies and locked-in harmonies, husband-wife duo Pete and Maura Kennedy take their cue from the folk-rock guild of Laurel Canyon that thrived in the golden glow of the mid-’60s boom.  Consequently, West purveys that same spirit of wanderlust with a set of songs-borrowed in a variety of ways — some from other sources (the late John Stewart’s ravishing “The Queen of Hollywood High” and The Records’ otherwise obscure “Perfect Love”) and some via originals that owe inspiration to earlier idols (the Buddy Holly-like “Locket” and the Chuck Berry-infected rocker “Travel Day Blues”).  The imagery is spectacular in itself, whether it’s the aforementioned “Travel Day Blues” and its earnest roll call of musical and literary legends, or the title track’s freewheeling homage to the open road. Despite the disparate settings, each is sung from personal perspective, making this sweeping musical journey particularly poignant.””

Lee Zimmerman - Relix

“Just in from one of the best gigs I have seen this year. The Kennedys were superb at The Loft tonight. Wonderful music and a great U2 cover in Wild Honey. Anyone who missed it missed a treat of a gig. Hope they come back again soon.”

“Folk-rock duo Maura and Pete Kennedy have created an escape for listeners with their latest album, Closer Than You Know by The Kennedys. With tight, pitch-perfect vocals and influences that differ throughout the album, The Kennedys have created a must-listen album.”

“Headline: JIM FARBER IS FLOORED BY THE KENNEDYS...Maura Kennedy's voice rests wistfully on music that makes Burt Bacharach-style somber pop." - Aug 19, 2012”

"Byrdsy jangle and boy-girl harmonies...irresistible"
