This Survival Day/Australia Day come and make a difference. Not only will there be unstoppable tunes being hurled from 2 stages, inside and outside the Brunny Hotel but you can also come down and add some weight to the crisis that faces OUR indigenous people and help us scream loud enough so that our Government has to listen. The DATE chosen for Survival Day/Australia Day, NEEDS to be CHANGED. As it stands at the moment, the Australia Day of "celebration" takes place on the 26th of January each year. This date is the day the First Fleet dropped anchor in Botany Bay and started colonisation. What you may not know is that this colonisation saw atrocities such as, MASS MURDER, RAPE, KIDNAPPING, POISONING, DELIBERATE STARVATION, CULTURAL GENOCIDE, and a million other heinous crimes, COMMITTED against OUR native people. Isnt it about time we stopped forcing our indigenous people to sit by and watch as the ENTIRE nation celebrates this date. We all need to refuse to see this DATE as a National Day of Celebration and instead see it for exactly what it is, one of MOURNING for our native people. It is NOT about getting rid of Australia day, but to have a true day of National Celebration and to be able to include EVERYONE in it, then the date HAS TO BE CHANGED. Why not move it to MAY 26th instead and have it as a day for all to be proud of... May 26th is SORRY DAY.
