Love Like Hate - Rabbit Hole Tour
Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween) is an ancient celtic festival these days more commonly known as Halloween. In the northern hemisphere this day falls on October 31st, but here in the southern hemisphere it is April 30th. Many consider it the Pagan New Year, and it is the third and final harvest. Samhain is also known as the “Feast of the Dead” and is believed to be a time when the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is at its thinnest. People would set an extra seat at the table and even make offerings of food and drink and light a candle in the window to invite the spirit in. In some traditions it was believed that dressing up as skeletons or ghosts would prevent you from standing out and would make the spirits feel more at home. Samhain is also thought to be a night of magic and chaos, the Nature Spirits are very active and seem to enjoy pulling pranks on people and generally be mischievous, going out after dark was not advised and dressing up was thought to fool the Nature Spirits to avoid being pranked. Offerings left on the doorstep were also thought to deter pranksters, which seems to be the origin of “Trick or Treat”. Samhain night is considered to be a potentially dangerous and powerful night and the perfect time for communicating with the dead, not just because the veil is thin, but also because the powers of divination are strengthened on this night. Samhain will be celebrated at The SCU UniBar with some “scary” music and costumes on Friday April 27th. Starting with SubStation, a four piece grunge rock band from Lismore, giving us a high energy rock show. Then Jamhog, a three piece rock band with influences ranging from blues to metal, with high-energy fun music Jamhog are all about playing hard, having fun and getting the crowd rocking. After the Hog are The Argonauts generating a massive sound and delivering heavy, searing guitar riffs, graceful and gritty vocals, concerto style piano pieces, fuzzed out bass sounds, and forceful beats. And finally Hybridize, musical, melodical, metallical, definitely desirable and perfectly reliable, essentially their music is probably best described as old school heavy rock/metal, Hybridize have a live set that is tight, energetic and will hook in any audience from beginning to end. So grab your broomstick, dress in your scariest outfit and fly on down to the Unibar, doors open at 6pm for 6 hours for $6, show will kick off at about 7pm.
