The Real King(s) return to Exchange 9 months on older, wiser, tighter and with all the album tracks fully prepared for live presentation. In the interim they have played the Fleece 3 times, including headlining, The Hope and Anchor Islington and a variety of pub venues locally. The Real King(s) of Spain, are an experimental art rock duo who incorporate electronic, instrumental, spoken word, sample, internet-download and political elements into their sound. They fuse melody and rhythm with an occasionally more discordant score to reflect the nature of the lyrics, which deal with subjects from class antagonism to Dionysian excess and many others in between. Bowie is an influence for sure, and there’s a nod to Eno in the music as well as the more experimental end of post punk …some Second Hand Daylight era Magazine, bits of The Pop Group... and the tunes ain’t half bad Live they have a talented four piece band to bring the complex pieces to a live stage in a coherent and imaginative form creating something that is recognisably the studio product yet with an added feel and dimension to the work.
