“Strange Torpedo, a local four-piece band, rocked steadily as standout bass player Tom Roberts led the group with precision and style. Drummer Nathan Koskey bounced about his set energetically but never overpowered the other members. Cellist Nate Chasen came to the forefront on many songs and presented an artistic twist on their post-punk numbers as he played both traditional as well as distortion-heavy riffs. When Chasen was not playing the cello he stood in as the band's most interesting vocalist... Most of the band's songs seemed recognizable even if hearing them for the first time. The band's highpoint was the song "Spotlight"-a choppy blues driven pop song which sounded like it could be a b-side from Joe Jackson's "Look Sharp." Whenever the set started to lag and the next song sounded like the last song, guitarist Pete Hayek took a break from his clean progressions and intervened with a saxophone or whistling solo. For an up and coming band...Strange Torpedo was surprisingly fresh”
