Friday 22nd November 2013 - Sunday 24th November 2013 The Zesty Contra House party weekend is designed to entertain and extend your dance horizons. Contra dancing is a development of the English country dances taken up by the French at the end of the 17th Century which were then exported back to England and subsequently travelled with the early settlers to America. The resurgence of interest in recent years has led to a more contemporary “zesty” contra style. Stick Shift is Holly Norton (piano/fiddle), Robbie Thomas (guitar, mandolin, banjo) and Nigel Walker (Fiddle). Their coruscating fiddling and rock-solid rhythmic drive has made them into an extremely exciting contradance band. Rhodri Davies and Mark Elvins are two of the very best contra dance callers in England. Their annual double-act of workshops and dances at the House Party gives them an extended opportunity to work with and to entertain dancers. Friday: arrive from 4pm. Dance 8pm. Saturday: dance and music workshops. Saturday Night Contra Dance 8-11pm. Sunday: dance workshops and a final dance. Finishes by 5pm. Full board (all meals, accommodation, workshops, Saturday night dance) £200 per person – single ensuite room; £180 per person – sharing an ensuite room. £180 single non-ensuite room. £170 sharing a non- ensuite room.
