Paseo Jarocho Raul Fernandez leads Paseo Jarocho, and exciting presentation featuring arrangements of sones jarochos, from southern Veracruz, Mexico, and weaving together Indigenous-Mexican, Spanish, Arabic, and Afro-Caribbean musical styles to explore shared historical roots of these centuries-old traditions. Son del Viento Chicago jarocho ensemble collaborates with Aztec conchero dancers, and musicians of the Middle-eastern oud, nuevo flamenco, Mexican huasteca, Venezuelan joropo, Afro-carribean and West African traditions to tell stories of musical diaspora through varied rhythms, melodies, dance and poetic forms.
