Smash Palace Cliff Hillis Friday, May 22, 2015 Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm World Cafe Live Philadelphia $12.00 With their tenth CD, “Extended Play,” Smash Palace delivers the perfect soundtrack for the summer of 2014. The five rock n roll tracks represent the signature Butler brothers sound – 60’s jangle rock, 70’s rock swagger, 80’s power pop and 90’s Brit rock – rolled into a contemporary 2014 style of its own. The sixth Smash Palace release on Zip Records, “Extended Play” demonstrates Smash Palace’s diverse rock prowess. Imagine that you are listening to five of your favorite songs even though you haven’t heard any of them before! Welcome to “Extended Play.” It WILL bring a smile to your face. Band leaders Stephen and Brian Butler are joined by Fran Smith Jr. on bass and drummer David Uosikkinen of the Hooters for this album. Long time friends and bandmates from the Philadelphia area, the four musicians have created their finest work to date. Smash Palace will be touring extensively in support of the new release and revisiting favorites from the past. Cliff Hillis, guitar and vocals and Wally Smith on keyboards are part of the live touring band. Stephen and Brian Butler were first discovered by Hilly Kristal of NYC’s original punk club, CBGB’s and signed to Columbia Records and then reborn as Smash Palace and moved to Epic Records. The band released a self titled album that enjoyed MTV rotation and high profile tours. Smash Palace was on hiatus during the 90’s as the Butler brothers went on to staff song writing positions at EMI and BMG. The band reformed and Art Herman of Zip Records signed the band after seeing their performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

“You know what impresses me most about the latest Smash Palace? BESIDES the wickedly assured playing and gloriously computer-free recording throughout? Why, it was/is the SONG WRITING, (stupid)! The key to all great Pop and/or Rock, of course, and something none of us ever hear hardly enough anymore you know... ~Gary 'Pig' Gold www.garypiggold.com”
