Small Room 9 / Press

“They may have started in a small town, but Small Room 9 boasts a big sound and an even bigger future. Small Room 9’s music embodies pure rock and roll. Hailing from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the band has already experienced major success... Lead singer Rod Mooney says that he has become tired of the negative themes in a lot of music and has always tried to exert a positive influence. Mooney says that their name has now taken on a bigger meaning, and is a reminder of their small beginnings and the hard work they have put in to get where they are today. Currently, Small Room 9 are touring and promoting their self-titled album (SR9). They are also playing the Cutting Edge Festival in New Orleans and CPRFest in Biloxi, MS along with Evanescence, Chavelle, and Foxy Shazam. Later this year they will be shooting a live concert video as well as a concept video in Orlando, FL. They are also working on their next album, which they hope to record in 2013.”

“I firmly believe that music has the power to inspire you; to give you an extra push, some extra strength to power through whatever it is you’re doing or dealing with. For music to reach you like that, it really needs to be special. Bands like U2 and The Foo Fighters know how to write a song that can lift you up and give you the hope and strength you need to get moving. Well add another band to that list: Small Room 9. Small Room 9 take the inspirational lyricism and guitar versatility of U2 and mix it with the edge and rock and roll attitude of The Foo Fighters. The result is a new rock and roll band that can inspire and drive you forward to help you seize the day.”

“The four-man band, Small Room 9, has hit some big time success while remaining deeply rooted in their small town life in the Pine Belt. The band's single - "Paging Ground Control" - was released on Rock Band 3 in May and charted at No. 1 on Air Play Direct Rock for a while. The band's album, "SR9," also was one of most downloaded albums on the Air Play Direct Rock chart during May. On Wednesday, the album ranked No. 5 on the May chart.”

“Three months ago their song "Paging Ground Control" was found and chosen by an employee of the Rock Band Network. The band has their own avatars, and they can see the number of thousands of people that are playing and listening to their songs. "It's pretty amazing. I can't believe that they did it for us, because its really cool. They have like U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Rolling Stones, the Beetles and now it says Small Room 9," said Mooney. The game isn't their only recent accomplishment. "We are number one on Air Play Direct Downloads, where we beat out bands like Heart, The Romones, and The Doors," said Sasser. "This last week Europe is really picking us up, and the rest of the world actually. So, it's really strange but its very exciting at the same time, because we don't know what's going to happen," said Lott.”

“Small Room 9 is winning some national and international attention. The band has opened for Chingy, Shenandoah, Ludacris, the Wailers (Bob Marley's band), Stroke 9 and others. They have performed at House of Blues, toured across the United States and headlined an international music festival held on the border between Canada and the U.S. Their music has been used in advertisements that ran on VH1, and they played at a party for the cast of MTV's "The Real World." They also recently helped induct actor Morgan Freeman into the Mississippi Artists Hall of Fame. ”

“Small Room 9 has been together over two and a half years with its current members. Founding members Rod Mooney (vocals, guitar) and Glenn Sasser (lead guitar) have been together since the beginning for close to five years when the band was started in the fall of 1998. Harvey Lott (drums) has been playing for almost four years with SR9 and Josh Ishee (bass) has been in the line up over 2 and a half years. Small Room 9 is based around the Hattiesburg area with members from Collins, Seminary, and Ellisville, Mississippi. SR9's sound is compared to bigger names such as Stone Temple Pilots, Fuel, U2, or Tonic. Powerful guitar riffs and moving lyrics have given SR9 a distinct sound all their own that can only be described as original rock. Nothing too heavy, nothing too pop, just straight up ROCK and ROLL. ”
