“Big, burly and barrel-chested is what the mugshot for Seattle trio Skunk Rider looks like. Not every band name can be a winner but Skunk Rider is just a P.U. for me. If I would have come across this in a record shop I would have passed right by it without thinking twice (the cover art's not bad though). But we all know the old saying…what’s in a name? Thankfully, the band’s music manages to eclipse its rather stinky moniker. Full of ultra-fuzzy, glue sniffing riffs, vocals that come off like a blackout drunk Danzig meets Mr. Ironlung (from Scissorfight) and rhythms that stick like hamburger grease to a pan, the band’s debut Smoke Serpent works up a pretty reckless groove that’s beggin’ to be charged for DUI.”
