Totally moved and inspired to want to contribute to the youth of his community (but not even having two pennies to rub together himself), Simon, along with recording artist Samia Mounts (his amazing co-leader and partner in crime), came up with this star studded, one night only concert to raise money for the LGBTQ youth of New York City. The Arts & Culture programs offered by HMI are to foster self-expression through dance, film, photography, painting, theater and more, so these kids can reach their full potential in a safe and supportive environment. Being a professional drummer (and gay to boot), Simon understands very well the importance of nurturing young talent and providing for the 13-24 year olds that come through MHI’s doors every single day. All proceeds go to the Arts & Culture programs at HMI for the LGBTQ Youth that come through their doors seeking acceptance, love, food, clothing and a chance at life. PLEASE NOTE: - All tickets must be purchased prior to the show. Tickets WILL NOT be sold at the door!!! - This is a 21+ event Tickets and/or donations can be made here: www.hmi.org/expressions -------------------------------------------------- SPECIAL MENTION to the following for their gracious love and financial support in helping get this project off the ground in getting the venue booked: Cal Turner, Counter Play Management, Matthew P. http://www.marcsloan.net/ Sloan grew up in Cincinnati, home of King Records and Big Red milling machines, close to Chicago, Blues, Nashville, the Kentucky and West Virginia coal mines, Hillbilly Highways and the Chitlin circuits; out East work(ed) I.A.T.S.E. Locals 1&4 stage, carpenters and theater techs; 'Cold Facts' hard on the hands personified by Sixto Rodriguez better than anybody. Sloan heard songs and melodies that revealed themselves in rolling banjo arpegios, Flamenco guitar (the other true original blues music), jazz and rock music. After a couple of decades with the East Village New York scene Sloan went to Spain to work on style, those sounds and a new mode of writing. Poetry written for decades since 1975 withstood the test of time and played out of head and notebooks into song. Forever Moonlight started out as 'the first solo folk album'. All the rhythm and vocal tracks were recorded live with very few overdubs. The team turned out to be a bunch of powerful wild horses you can hear trying to run away with some of the songs. A few of the tracks are a lot more intense then originally planned. But, what isn't in this life? So, this 'folk' lullaby bucket kicker album sways and rocks pretty hard with more betterer subtle nuances than most. It is eccentric as hell, classical by nature giving acoustic-punk industrial wood shavings. Sloan's left a lot of musicians and audience flying off the cliff as the music makes several hairpin turns around a big mountain. Meet Astor Piazzola, Nick Drake, Jackson Brown, John Prine, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash rolled up into one big moon ball of forever. http://www.marcsloan.net/
