Dun Propa proudly presents a NEW MONTHLY to feed your hunger for Jungle, Drum & Bass, Darkstep, and Mashup.
We are excited to present to you our first installment of Table Manners where we will either introduce or re-introduce you to Propa Turntable Etiquette.
Etiquette and the ritual it imposes helps to control the vibe
inherent in the preparation and serving of beats.
We would like to begin by shifting focus to the Art of Propa DJ-ing.
As you experience this event, we would like for you to take notice of what the DJ is actually doing. Is he mixing records using beat matching, beat juggling, and manipulation of sound through those little knobby things and those little slidy things on the Mixer? Or is he train-wrecking and bass-clapping... with the bass up so high that its distorted and the treble down so low that you cant even hear it? Is he just letting the record play?
Its time to give respect to those real DJ's out there who have worked for many years to perfect their craft. So keep in mind while you are enjoying these fresh beats, where those beats are coming from, and give big ups to those who dedicate so much time to entertain you!
We will begin each night with an hour of an OPEN TABLE DJ CONTEST! It will start promptly at 9PM so get there early to participate, the first 4 to sign up will be given time to shine (last one there is a rotten beet!) This contest will feature 4 random DJs who will be given 15 minutes each to show us their stuff. After each DJ has been given their chance to do it up propa, the audience will vote on the winner of the contest. The prize is a full hour 10-11PM slot in our next monthly!
This night, our DJs include:
J SMOOTH (12-1AM) [dnb][GFS PRODUCTIONS/ASCAP/RYCO MUSIC][PHILLY]
Nationally touring dj, a producer, and plays guitar. (among other things). World renowned for his funky drum and bass sets and his ill scratching abilities, J.Smooth was one of the pioneers of american hip and hop and drum and bass fusion. Nowadays, he makes it all from sick funk jams, downtempo ballads, and even rocking house tracks as part of Tito's Kids.
NICK FURY w/ MC BARRENZEMO (11-12AM) [dnb][B.A.D.A.S.S/BC-ONE/CONQUEST][PITTSBURGH]
Nick is no stranger to turntablism, jungle, and drum & bass. Influenced by DJs like Dieselboy, Freaky flow, Craze and UK DJs Aphrodite and Andy C, Nick Fury took a huge liking into the turntablism and hard mash up beats that come with Drum and Bass. Now, over 10 years later, Mixing and scratching and as the creator of the 40 oz Casualties, it didn't take long to start blowin' up stages after meeting long time best friend MC Barrenzemo aka Justin Clinton. From loving the style of jungle DJs with a hip hop MC vibe, they took their sound to a new level and got to rock the stage with DJ RAP, MR MAISON N SHARPNESS, FREAKY FLOW, CAPITAL J, APHRODITE, EVOL INTENT, 45 THIEVES, DEPTH 1 and many more.
SWINGKIDD (10-11PM) [dnb/turntablism][DUN PROPA/CONCEPT CREW/DUBSTEP MAFIA][PHILLY]
Having traveled the East Coast USA displaying his unique personality and cunning technique through sound, SwingKidd has become a legendary name as a battle-scarred and spirited turntablist, and a musing music producer. Within the past 12 years, Swingkidd often spends countless hours, even days on end creating and producing the music that fuels his passion. His sound and finely tuned skill is demonstrated by intricate scratching, proper mixing, and beat juggling with a track selection that is well represented by sight and sound. It is truly a performance that is beyond compare to most still-practicing turntablists in the world today.
