This First Friday, you will witness the gorgeous art of Betty Leonor, the great music
of Keith and Linda Barbour and Kama Ruby.
Kama is truely excited to share the stage with Keith and Linda. Keith,
a former member of the New Christy Minstrels, who also had a hit solo
with 'Echo Park" in 1969 and Linda have been peforming and writing together
for over twenty years. Linda, a brilliant artist in her own right has also been
busy with Kama Ruby touring their cabaret "Stages."
Here is a short bio on Linda. Linda Barbour says she has a radio playing in her head that never shuts off, and her encyclopedic knowledge of popular music bears her out.
Born into a musical family of naturally talented, self-taught musicians (Uncle Lawrence played with Buck Owens), her first professional appearance was as Little Miss Chevrolet, at age three, on local Los Angeles TV.
In her teen years, with her striking looks and Broadway-sized voice, she soon was garnering leads in both dramatic and musical productions, while dancing to the Beach Boys, who attended a rival high school. From there, she went on to become a Theatre Arts major at UCLA.
An avid writer all her life, Linda started writing lyrics when she met Keith Barbour, her soon-to-be husband, and a potent musical duo and song-writing team was born. They perform throughout California as Barbour & Barbour.
And what about that radio in her head? It makes Linda just as comfortable with Billy Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald as she is with Diana Krall, Nora Jones or Patsy Cline. Sit down, tune in and have a listen.
Kama plans to introduce a few new tunes she has recently added to her artillery.
"Time After Time" (Not the Lauper version), Nature Boy, and a cool addition of a
Dusty Springfield song will make for a fun and interesting night of music.
