The LIZARD KINGS Bio:
The Lizard Kings have consistently pushed forward the campaign of resurrecting a “dead art” – Blues driven Rock ’n Roll music played with complexity and finesse. Formed on New Year’s Eve 2000, in the heart of Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, guided by the philosophy that great sacrifice, dedication, and passion will lead to great music; The Lizard Kings strayed from the predictability of simplistic contemporary rock music by exploring the lost chords and scales left behind by legends. The Lizard Kings have studied greats such as Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Santana, Creedence, and The Doors – as well as less explored musicians, such as Cream, Robin Trower, and Steppenwolf. They then mixed in a good helping of Chicago-rooted blues and the powerful, rich, baritone vocals of lead singer Al Logan to form a formidable force of pulsating, melodic oneness.
Playing first at small venues like Weeds, The Note and Spot 6 on Chicago’s North Side, The Lizard Kings’ message of better music did not fall upon deaf ears. This allowed them to expand and grow into larger venues such as The Congress Theatre and Navy Pier, with three showcases on WLS Radio. Even catching the attention of the local Spanish rock scene becoming the only band to sing in English while being the number one draw in a Spanish music circuit. Now The Lizard Kings look to conquer Chicago’s Club Music community by once again reinventing themselves, expanding into yet another dimension of Chicago’s nightlife. The Lizard Kings continue to be a band whose future should be carefully watched and experienced.
