Big Red Dog Promotions has been bringing some of the top national blues acts to the Des Moines area. Tickets are $10 as Tweed Funk debuts their nationally acclaimed soul-blues at the Gas Lamp. Tweed Funk's latest CD has now spent over 2 months in the Top 20 on the Roots Music Report Charts and the band has received excellent review in Living Blues Magazine, Blues Revue, Big City R&B Magazine, The Blues Blast Magazine, Blue 411, IconFetch, and numerous other publications in the US and around the world. Formed 2 years ago, Tweed Funk has garnered national and international acclaim for their horn-driven, sweat-soaked, soul-blues. This Milwaukee, Wisconsin band is fronted by Joseph “Smokey” Holman, who recorded under Curtis Mayfield, Rufus Thomas, and Willie Mitchell in early 70’s. Critics love Smokey's sweet soulful vocals that have earned a blues-edge via his journey the steel mills and hard-scrabble urban corridors of life. Whether opening for Buddy Guy or playing a small blues club - Smokey and the band brings it!
