JORY KINJO & BRENT TYLER : WINTERIZED SOUL 2013
Brent Tyler & Jory Kinjo are two experienced and journeyed songwriting musicians teaming up for a tour across the western provinces and Vancouver Island, performing soulful and heartfelt songs with an engaging & driven style. Brent’s style is influenced by the likes of Martin Sexton, Jeff Buckley, Dave Matthews, and Jack Johnson. Jory’s influenced by r&b/soul catalogs of Motown and Stax Records with a tasty appreciation for the crooked rhythms of Jamaica infused with blues.
Two men. Guitar. Bass.
‘WINTERIZED SOUL’ represents two deeply expressive artists hitting the icy highways, heating up venues from Alberta to Vancouver Island loaded with an original catalog of songs, a couple of guitars and a bass. Jory & Brent have their sights set on performing intimate and interactive venues where they can share their life experience and entertain audiences of a broad demographic.
It takes a level of discipline to continue the pursuit of musical dreams in a grey climate of global recession and a withering economy. A leap of faith is required. Imagining experiences that can never be replicated in the comfort of our digital world from home, Brent Tyler & Jory Kinjo are heading out on the road to shake some hands, turn some heads, and spread their sounds. With the intent of making connections in new communities and a hope of bridging the gap between their hearts’ desires and the music appreciators of Western Canada and beyond.
Songs stripped down from their studio production and performed in intimate venues where the lyrics, stories, and passionate raw energy of their performance will surely connect with listeners. Universal lyrics, an abundance of musical prowess, and the interplay of two soulful voices will define this tour bringing together for the first time two cornerstones of Calgary’s dynamic independent music community.
Big Love. This is the best description of Brent Tyler's music and live performance. An aggressive acoustic style combined with lungs befit of his seven foot stature. Brent Tyler balances the soft subtlety of honest and introspective folk music with soulful and powerful pop hooks and melodies born of his childhood influences and contemporary crushes. After releasing his 2nd Album 'In Rhythm' in the summer of 2010, Brent Tyler has spent the last year adding highway kilometres and industry experience to his already accomplished resume. Highlights include opening slots for Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Watchmen, Lorne Elliot, Julian Austin, & Joel Plaskett. Recently, Brent has been fortunate to share stages with other accomplished Canadian artists such as Wil, CR Avery, Ari Neufeld, Jocelyn & Lisa, & The Polyjesters.
Jory Kinjo has been labeled by CTV as a Calgary institution. Leaving the U of C Jazz program in 1999 to tour Canada and the world with ‘Canada’s powerhouse R&B’ band, The Mocking Shadows, he hasn’t stopped playing, performing, or writing since. Fueled by his passion, armed with his bass/guitar and a bewitching voice, he’s a man driven by music and affectingly skilled at translating his passion to individuals and massive crowds alike.
His resume is deep. With The Mocking Shadows, Kinjo released 5 albums and the first Canadian independent live DVD, in conjunction with 10 years on stage experience. With his brother Kaley, Jory has toured Japan thrice in support of their original project, Kinjo Bros. With his original ska/reggae/soul band, J.k & The Relays, he’s been showcased at TransCanada AB Music Series and on festival stages from Alberta to Quebec.
Stage highlights include two Canadian tours with B.B. King, sharing the stage with Tragically Hip, ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, Randy Bachman, Fishbone, JJ Grey & MOFRO, English Beat, The Slackers, and Chris Murray. Jazz trained. R&B schooled. Soul immersed. Funkified. Kinjo knows no boundaries.
Brent Tyler?...Imagine Martin Sexton smoking cigarettes with Dave Matthews listening to Jeff Buckley. A Tall man with a Grande talent and a Venti heart.
Jory Kinjo?... Imagine Bill Withers, Bob Marley, and The Roots jamming at a party that Albert King was hosting. A gin/soda soul with champagne chops.
Kinjo and Tyler together? ...All heart. Unlimited soul. Comprehensive bliss.
