Tift Merritt "Sonic short stories"-WXRT radio, Chicago
The New Yorker has called Tift Merritt "the bearer of a proud tradition of distaff country soul that reaches back to artists like Dusty Springfield and Bobbie Gentry. Emmylou Harris said she "stood out like a diamond in a coal patch." The first person she wanted to be like was Eudora Welty, and she's a Southern storyteller in song with few peers. Tift is the host of public radio's "The Spark with Tift Merritt," which is becoming one of the key dialogue points of Americana music. She recently released the album "Traveling Alone," of which she says, " I think that we all do travel alone, and it's important to think about that sometimes."
