Tuesday, December 11th: CARLI AND JULIE KENNEDY with WEST MY FRIEND and guests
Doors: 8 pm. $7/$5
Carli And Julie Kennedy bring their West Coast Christmas Tour to The Railway Club for an intimate evening of music!
Carli and Julie Kennedy are a Canadian powerhouse duo with a musical bond that only identical twins can share. With Carli on vocals and guitar and Julie on vocals and violin, they have developed a sound that is all their own: a fusion of their background in country, folk, jazz, and Celtic music. An undeniably energetic duo, the Kennedys’ performances bring a mix of toe-tapping tunes and intimate, heartfelt songs to the stage. Nominated for five 2012 BC Country Music Awards, Carli and Julie were also nominated as the Best Live Act for the 2012 Vancouver Island Music Awards. With a musical connection reminiscent of other Canadian family groups, such as Leahy and The Rankins, audiences are falling in love with the music of Carli and Julie Kennedy.
“Sweetheart identical twins, Carli and Julie Kennedy were nothing short of awesome. How two, petite and pretty entertainers can play with such gusto and speed is something to see…Classical training seeping into the mix gave the traditional country fiddle vs guitar face-off something special that got the crowd cheering.”

Since West My Friend was conceived in a Victoria café in 2009, they’ve emerged as a unique voice in the city’s music scene. Described as everything from indie-roots to chamber-folk, their acoustic blend of instruments and four-part harmonies challenges the conventions of popular music to create a performance that is both engaging and innovative.
A love for the songs of The Decemberists, The Black Keys, Mother Mother, Beirut, Bob Dylan, Owen Pallet, Joanna Newsom, Mumford & Sons, The Punch Brothers, and Iron & Wine adds to this diverse musical palette. Having created a four-song hand-made EP in 2011, West My Friend recently released their first full-length album “Place”. This record is a significant step forward for West My Friend; the group’s collaboration with producer Adrian Dolan (The Bills, Mark Atkinson) and Juno-Award winner David Travers-Smith (The Wailin’ Jennys, Oh Susannah) provides a strong underpinning of experience in folk-roots music for this promising young band.
"West My Friend offers a sound of true Canadiana achieved via extraordinary musicianship. Eden Oliver's vocals are powerfully eclectic, bridging the gap between east coast Cape Breton and Vancouver Island."
