We are delighted to bring you a feast of top notch musical entertainment for September's charity fundraiser 'Notes for Notes'. This time around we will be raising money for our local charity ‘Camberwell Choir’ school. For more information on Camberwell Choir School please visit http://www.camberwellchoirschool.org.uk/
Tom Price Stephens will be opening the night at 19:30. Tom came highly recommended, and while we have not yet seen him play, we wait in eager anticipation. After years of playing beaches, barbeques and bedrooms, 2012 saw Tom take a raft of new material to the streets of London.
Focusing on honing live performance before making his first record, Tom has played over 80 gigs so far this year and is still enjoying playing wherever people will listen. Check him out on: http://www.reverbnation.com/tompricestephens
Ceri James goes on at 20:15. Formerly in London based bands including Zen, and Tuesday Heartbreak, Ceri is now following a solo career and featured on the first Angular CD that was voted No1 compilation of 2004 by NME. To hear some of Ceri’s music please check out: http://www.reverbnation.com/cerijames
Russell Swallow follows on the bill at 21:00. Russell has played The Joiners a number of times now and always goes down a treat. Russell Swallow is an indie-folk song writer, playing with a gritty ensemble of guitars, piano, violin, brass, drums/percussion and many, many voices.
After growing up in the beautiful but rather sedate Suffolk Countryside he came to London as a rocker but discovered he'd brought Suffolk with him. Born out of Sunday roast dinners, long bright walks across Walthamstow marshes and late night whiskey sessions; it's music to dance to, sing to, and fall in love to. After Russell blows us away, Ben Barritt takes to the stage at 21:45. It was actually Russell who recommended Ben play the Joiners a few weeks back and to be quite honest; he blew us away. Ben teaches guitar in the Contemporary School of music in Kilburn, and when you watch him play it’s pretty easy to see why they have him tutor. We can honestly say we’ve never seen so many chords and variations within the confines of one song. Ben had previously spent many years working with cover bands, but the past 2 years has seen him hone in on original composition. It’s what we love the most and his songs are quite simply outstanding. To quote D.J Dazz “If I were a woman I’d have sex with him right now”. No need to say much more. Outstanding. Check out Ben’s tunes at: http://www.reverbnation.com/benbarritt
At 22:30 we have our main support act with Aidan Parle and The Carnival Red. Previously, Aidan has performed solo, as a duo and as a trio but this Saturday you will see him perform as a four piece, bringing in Dave Hattee on drums. Aidan is no stranger to the Joiners, and many of us know his powerful set; a combination of heartfelt contemporary folk numbers that touch into punk and rock that steeped in satire and social commentary. Aidan released his debut E.P in July 2012 titled Carnival Red. For more information, please visit: http://www.reverbnation.com/aidanparle
Last but not least, John McClean and his band take to the stage at 23:15. John has played the Joiners as a soloist as well as with his band, and he has always gone down a storm. John’s songs have a unique way of dragging an audience to their feet. It’s rock n roll, it’s blues and it’s pure. John will be playing with his full band and we highly recommend you stay to the bitter (sweet) end. Unfortunately we cannot find a web link for John, but take our word for it that the reason he’s constantly asked back is due to the standard of his performance.
See you there folks!
Don’t forget we serve delicious pizzas, and have an excellent selection of beers, ales, spirits and wines. Please give what you can in support of Camberwell Choir School
