Portland's wildest piano man surrounds himself with heavy hitters on a regular basis at this very popular dance and roots music venue. The Sextet's "Soul Survivor” Horns, featuring Chris Mercer on sax and Joe McCarthy on trumpet, holds court with reverent wind and brass elegance. Peter Dammann employs an impressive knowledge of blues history to wield his stinging solos and accompanying rhythmic guitar lines. The foundation for all this lies in the thundering foot of drummer Ed Pierce combined with the very large and precise thumb of Joseph Conrad on his bass. DK simply sets the throttle on "full" and holds tight to the wheel. "The band runs on it's own steam..." says Stewart. "I'm just the hood ornament.”
