Pin Productions is proud to announce A tribute to the Music and Writings of Woody Guthrie. It will be held at the St. Ann Art and Cultural Center in Woonsocket, RI on July 21, 2012. General Admision tickets are $8 and all proceeds will go to the Woody Guthrie Foundation and the preservation of his legacy. Starting at 4pm, several acts will perform Guthrie classics, other period songs, and originals that certainly Woody Guthrie himself would enjoy.
This year marks what would have been Woody’s 100th birthday, and with special permission from the Woody Guthrie Foundation, local musicians are coming out to celebrate and cover Woody Guthrie songs in many genres of music. Also there will be readings of Woody’s poetry and verse.
Woody Guthrie is most famous for his song “This Land Is Your Land”. A true American anthem, this melody and lyrics we all recognize. But Woody’s catalog of songs stretches as far and wide as the open country he traveled. Writing thousands of songs over many years of hard travelin‘, hard ramblin‘, hard workin’ and hard gamblin‘, these songs resonate struggles we still face today. Woody wrote and sang songs that captured the events of a generation that included our parents and grandparents. If you listen closely, you will hear some familiar stories. So please join us in celebrating Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday!
