The Third Expression is much looking forward to a return show at Marsh Woodwinds Upstairs! Widely known as the best listening environment in the Triangle, Marsh Woodwinds Upstairs has long been a favourite among musicians in North Carolina and beyond. Conveniently located near downtown Raleigh, free appetizers and soft drinks will be provided courtesy of Rodney along with a BYOB option. All this and two full sets of music for only $10. We'll also be featuring special guest Nathan Golub (John Howie Jr and The Rosewwod Bluff, JKutchma & The Five Fifths, Katherine Whalen) who will be joining us on pedal steel so be sure to mark this one on your calendar!
‘South, North, East & West of The Border.’
Referencing sounds from such diverse and eclectic wellsprings as Jamaica's Studio One, Cachao y Su Orquesta, Jimmy Webb, Brian Wilson, Booker T. & The MG's, The Shadows, Les Paul and Ernesto Lecuona, The Third Expression blend a wide array of influences gathering elements from classic pop, jazz and old school roots music along with more exotic flavors. An evening with The Third Expression contains layers of melody, texture and atmosphere that extend beyond the ordinary.
The Third Expression features guitarist Mike Krause, bassist Jane Francis and drummer Chris Stephenson, musicians who have performed and/or recorded with a wide spectrum of established artists from North Carolina and beyond including: Caitlin Cary, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Tift Merritt, Taj Mahal, Ryan Adams, Big Al Anderson, Abe Laboriel Jr., Thad Cockrell, Chris Stamey, Andy Kuncl, The Connells, International Orange, Velvet, the North Carolina Symphony, Chapel Hill Philharmonia and members of Ben Folds Five, Patty Griffin, The Jayhawks, The Old Ceremony, NRBQ, Levon Helm, Dave Mattacks (XTC), the Dex Romweber Duo and Tommy Keene among others.
