Africare’s Health Jam Event is designed to provide a forum in which residents of Southeast D.C. can enjoy musical sounds from the U.S. and the African continent while receiving important basic health care screening and advisory services, informational sessions on healthier nutritional habits, educational presentations about Africare and cultural awareness segments regarding African nations, traditions and contributions.
Medical Screening Services
Africare, in partnership with the Whitman-Walker Clinic, will provide free medical screening tests and advisory services. The following list illustrates the main services to be provided the day of the event:
Blood Pressure Screening
Basic Dental Exams
Informational and educational booths may be provided by the following organizations:
Cultural Representatives from the Embassies of Ghana and Nigeria
Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation
MOTTEP: Minority Organ and Tissue Transplant Education Program
WIC State Agency (Nutrition and Physical Fitness Bureau)
Special Guest Appearances
Musical entertainment will be provided by Ark Jammers, Meron Bravo, Gen3tiks and Zeze Brasil. A raffle, Kid’s Corner booth and moonbounce will be provided the day of the event
