SUMMARY:SARTISOHN at Commercial Alley Public Art Project
DESCRIPTION:Price: free\nAge Limit: All Ages\n\nDetails: COLD CUT COMBO play live Gypsy Jazz at the Commercial Alley Public Art Project created conjointly by the Open Space Arts Society and the City of Victoria. This exciting public art project is aimed at invigorating the Commercial Alley, a well-traveled public space in Victoria. Liz P. Dempsey has been awarded the commission to create a series of four eight-foot painted panels that will remain hung in the alley for one year. Bringing art out of the gallery setting and into the streets for people to appreciate at all hours and under all conditions is a great way to push the boundaries of the public’s perception of galleries and even alleys. The project is also meant to shed light on the beautiful and often hidden public spaces that abound in the city. On Saturday, August 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Integrate Arts Festival, we will have an opening to celebrate the installation of the four painted creations by Liz Dempsey in Commercial Alley. Having seen a preview of the images Liz is creating, I know her whimsical work will stop people as they go by and cause them to consider her captivating and thought provoking painting.\n\nEnjoy food and beverages out in the open, discuss the beautiful paintings created for the space and the unique architecture of the alley itself, while music floats through the air and paper lamps swing lightly in the breeze overhead.
