SUMMARY:Dearest Home at Edith Davis Eve Chapel
DESCRIPTION:Click here to buy tickets: http://www.altoona.psu.edu/now/news.php?value=4927\nAge Limit: All Ages\n\nDetails: Dearest Home presents a workshop of traditional American folk music from the Samuel P. Bayard Collections and from the Civil War era. Through performance, audience participation and demonstration, they'll bring the music to life and place it in historical context. In addition they'll demonstrate Civil War era ladies' costume.\n\nAlthough Professor Bayard collected folk songs in the 20th century, much of the music has roots that extend for hundreds of years in the past. \n\nWith authenticity and originality in perfect harmony, Dearest Home recreates traditional American music from the U.S. Civil War era and Appalachia with a focus on the Samuel Preston Bayard Folk Song Collection housed at University Park's Eberly Family Special Collections Library. Bayard was an internationally known folklorist and musicologist who collected folk songs from the Southwestern Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia areas. He established the folklore program at Penn State and taught from 1945-1973.
