Born in New York, Roosevelt Long Island on October 4, 1976, John Caldwell aka Black Rhino was practically raised in the era of Hip Hop and Roots/ Dancehall Reggae. Rhino was always influenced by music. His mother (Bonnie Caldwell) always reminds him about the story of when she " would put him by the radio to calm him from crying and would forget where he was because he would become so hypnotized from the sound of music". By the age of fifteen he had already become one of the hottest and most known DJ's in New York. Between the age of 15 and 25, Rhino had played as a Reggae DJ in all five Barrels of New York! Feeling he wanted more from his music career, he pursued his dream of becoming a Reggae singer. He moved to Colorado at the age 26 in January 2004, where he wrote his first song ''Hustling''. In the summer of 2007 Rhino had landed a tour of Colorado with Zionway Reggae artist Rocker T and never looked back. That tour opened the door for him to join and co-led a local Reggae band by the name of Lion Souljahs. As a member of Lion Souljahs for six years, he learned to master is craft. Breaking away from Lion Souljahs in 2013 he is now a force to be wreckened with in the reggae world.. Opening up for major reggae artist such as Steele Pulse, Beres Hammond, Beenie Man, Yellow Man, Gregory Isaac, Joseph Hill, Daddy Screw, Sean Paul, Micky General, Luciano, J. Boog and Collie Buddz just to name a few. With the release of his album in 2013 " Chapter One: Rising Star", he has joined forces with a Colorado local reggae band known as" Apex Vibe" as a solo artist to do just that, become a rising star!
