Tonight's show will be part alt-country with a dash of rootsy Irish Americana, a pinch of indie-pop played on hillbilly instruments, and a splinter of dreamy indie-folk. It's the most eclectic show I've ever presented and my first show at the Milk Bar. So I hope everyone comes out and supports this show. It's gonna be hot!
CASEY NEIL & THE NORWAY RATS (Portland)
Neill's style, folk-punk, mixes influences from punk, Celtic and folk music, and has been compared to R.E.M. and The Pogues. It's Americana with an alternative and punk-rock edge. Neill's original weather beaten narratives eschew irony in favor of romance, celebrate society's miscreants, and explore the hidden corners of the American landscape. The Norway Rats, a crack gang of Portland musos, perform Neill's originals with unhinged live energy. With accordions, over-driven guitars, and Neill's raspy voice, the band blends elements of Scots/Irish tunefulness, feral abandon, and heartland rock.
Neill has played as a member of the Minus Five as well as shared stages with Jello Biafra, Pete Seeger, Sunny Day Real Estate, Camper Van Beethoven, & countless more. He was featured on the Pete Seeger tribute along with Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg, and Bonnie Raitt.
BLISSES B (SF)
Local band makes good. Good music that is. A music that can't be shoved into one category or one genre. They play a little bit of everything- from psychedelic pop to folk rock to high-energy indie rock. It's music that makes you hum along, jump round and dance your ass off.
GROW & TWINE (SF)
Grow and Twine play dreamy Nashville-California indie-folk.
