Action Camp is a duo based in Pittsburgh, PA whose sound blends elements of doom pop, electro, surf, and art rock. Members Maura Jacob and Bengt Alexsander combine found sound, drum loops, synths, low-tuned guitars, and Jacob’s classically-trained vocals to create music that can alternate between eerily gentle to sweeping and ferocious. This layering of the organic with the synthetic “creates a distinct sound that takes the best of all these worlds and boils it down into one cohesive unit… goodness that’s silent, murky, and ready to explode” (Dayton City Paper). They draw inspiration from folklore, religion, and historical events with their next release, a full-length album titled ‘PA’, giving special attention to disasters in Pennsylvania’s history. The album is available now to purchase through most major online distributors.
Drowning Clowns is a Pittsburgh-based psychedelic rock band whose music has been best described as a cataclysmic mix of rock, indie, americana and electro-pop. Over ten years, Mike Speranzo has slowly groomed the Drowning Clowns debut album “All That’s Covered Over” into an elaborately orchestrated musical catharsis with his wife, Liz Berlin (of the multi-platinum band Rusted Root). What began as his own musical haven has turned into an impressive & diverse collaboration of several prominent Pittsburgh musicians – including: Frank Spadafora on lead vocals, guitar & organ, DC/Element/Independent pro skater Evan Smith on vocals & guitar, Glenn Strother on lead guitar, Levi Graft on keys, Jesse Prentis on bass, and Shaggy Marcello on drums.
Last year, Atlas released their sophomore record "Shapes" to a sold out crowd in Pittsburgh and have been on the Clear Channel Stations 102.5 WDVE and 105.9 The X as well being featured on iHeartRadio. 2013 was spent touring throughout the East Coast and the Mid West, with successful stops in New York City, Chicago and Washington DC, to name a few. Our music has been compared to mainstream acts such as: Interpol, The Artic Monkeys, Radiohead and MUSE.
Pet Clinic, a five-piece band from Pittsburgh, describe themselves as "Belt-Rust Rock Born on the Rust-Belt". Their laid-back musical presentation combines psychedelic elements, electronic effects, hypnotizing guitar and bass lines, and a very present drum sound to set the stage for haunting vocals backed by hard-hitting, gritty, rock grooves. All of these things come together to create a unique and exciting "rusty" rock sound.
The “2014 Revival Series” is a revolutionary model of local showcases where admission is free for over 21 ($2 for under 21). Each band will be distributing free tickets and are paid according to how many of their tickets are redeemed at the door.
Because in our perfect world: Shows are free, people show up, bands get paid, & local music reigns supreme!
