Boston, Massachusetts, United States (2003 – present)
Kayo Dot is an avant-rock group originally from Boston, Massachusetts, United States (now based in Brooklyn, New York) that was formed in 2003 by Toby Driver after the disband of maudlin of the Well.
The music of Kayo Dot can not be accurately described by the limiting contemporary genre nomenclatures. Their songs involve complex instrumentation (composed by singer and front-man Driver), generally without refrain. They are substantially longer than typical rock songs, often ranging from 8 to 15 minutes in length.
Clad in Darkness (Album Release Show)
Clad in Darkness is a Black/Death Metal band from Chicago with strong progressive tendencies. Formed in late 1999 by Guitarists Coy Scottberg and John Benter, they were initially influenced by bands such as Opeth, Agalloch, and Dissection. Later the line up would be filled out with Vocalist Casey John Hogan, Bassist Chris Shive, and drummer Andrew. After recording the “Crimson Horizons” demo in late 2003, the band parted ways with Drummer Andrew, paving the way for the current drummer Brian Rendina. In 2005 the band recorded its second e.p. entitled “Amidst her Shadows” in which the lyrical focus is based on the book “Ethan Frome” here it is evident of the influence of avant-garde extreme metal such as Ulver, Lykathea Aflame, and Bethlehem.
Matt Tate Music
Matt Tate is a Chicago-based Chapman Stick artist, Guitarist and Instructor. For over the last 10yrs he has been dedicated to mastering the Chapman Stick, performing Solo and in bands. He has played in the US, Canada, and Mexico an opened for such acts as The Aristocrats and Buckethead. Currently, he is composing music for a Solo Stick record (M@T8), launching a new website and working on multiple recording/performing collaborations (metal-math-prog-experimental). His current musical leanings are in the vein of the technical-death-shred of Blotted Science to the rhythmic madness of Frank Zappa, the interlocking poly-rhythmic spiderwebs of King Crimson and the stark, overwhelming beauty of Arvo Part.
