This special Food for Thought is organized and conceived by Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, performer, curator, and co-director of anonymous bodies || art collective, a visual performance collective based in NYC and Philadelphia.
In 1994, Thelma Golden's Black Male opened at The Whitney Museum of American Art and struck a nerve in the visual art community with its frank and difficult interrogation of representations of black masculinity. With BLACK MALE REVISITED: Experimental Representations through the Ephemeral Form, Kosoko marks the 20th anniversary of this seminal and controversial show. Using Golden's exhibition as a point of departure, Kosoko emphasizes the intricate and dissident nature of the black male experience made visible through contemporary performance art practice.
