Pianist and Composer Esteban Castro began playing the piano at four and composing at five. By age six he had written full orchestral symphonies, and at seven he was already publicly performing his own jazz compositions. By eight years old he had performed in Carnegie Hall, and at nine he recorded his debut album.
Esteban is the youngest recipient of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award for his song “For Chick,” which appears on his debut album “In the Making.” With songs honoring some of his favorite pianists such as luminaries Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, “In the Making” is a creative outlet for Esteban’s original compositions spanning different jazz styles, all of which he composed from ages six through nine. Esteban Castro’s music has been critically acclaimed in various media including Verge Magazine, Downbeat Magazine and Something Else Reviews.
Esteban currently studies classical music with Phillip Kawin at the Manhattan School of Music’s Pre-College Program, and jazz with pianist/composer Oscar Perez. He regularly attends workshops at the Jazz House Kids, the New York Jazz Academy, the Litchfield Jazz Camp, and the Veneto Jazz Program in Italy. For more information visit estebanjazz.com.
