SIA snow show Voile party with Salem at the Voile booth.
Salem, from Breckenridge, CO, performs Todd Anders Johnson's socially-conscious compositions blending neo-soul, hip-hop and electronica. Salem has been traveling with Risan Project tours which include Salem concerts, ski and snowboard film premiers and presentations from environmental organizations such as Protect Our Winters, the Nantucket Land Council and The Climate Project.
Salem is a Voile ski and splitboard partner and is performing at Risan Media film premier and industry events with Voile with backcountry video sessions throughout the season.
Salem has played many competitive snow sports events like Tailgate Alaska, Winter X Games 12, the 48 Straight King of the Mountain in Sun Valley, the US Freeskiing Open, The US Snowboarding Grand Prix, the US Snowboarding VISA Cup, the Canadian Freeskiing Championships, the Breckenridge Spring Massive, the Keystone River Run Rocks and the Northface Masters of Snowboarding.
Salem music is the 2010 “Tailgate Alaska: The Movie”, the 2010 Teva Stand Up Paddling Educational DVD, Hiroyuki Yamada's 2009 “End of the Line”, Warren Miller's 2006 “Off the Grid”, the 2009 X Games After Party CD Compilation and the 2010 Bolder Boulder CD compilation
“Salem unites seemingly disparate topics: global peace and powder shots. Salem is as much at home in Warren Miller’s film Off the Grid as it is participating in Bono’s global ‘One Campaign.’ Blending jazz, funk, spoken word and some Afro-Cuban beats, it makes crowds dance and think.” Katy Niner, Jackson Hole News and Guide
“Salem's Todd Anders Johnson reinvented his band when he moved to Colorado a couple of years ago. His socially conscious reggae/Afro-influenced music has found a home in the ski and snowboard industry, as its soundtrack. After being featured on Warren Miller's "Off the Grid," he and band are touring with the athletes, playing X-Games last weekend, Copper's U.S. Freesking Tour and the Jeep King of the Mountain Tour.” Leslie Brefeld, Summit Daily News
“Like Bono and Franti, Johnson utilizes his music to help create awareness. Masterfully weaving hip-hop, neo-soul, funk, jazz, and Afro-Cuban styles, Salem is bound to move and groove you.” Rebecca Thoreson, Telluride Daily Watch
“Todd Anders Johnson can pound out mad beats while culling some tight lyrics, reaching that percussive Nirvana of five-part independence. Salem is certainly a band on the rise.” Jason Blevins, Denver Post
“ Salem, a band with an eclectic mix of Hip-Hop, Funk and Afro-Cuban music, bridges that gap and creates a union between these genres. The end product is a groundbreaking and unique sound.” Spotlight story by Nicole Cormier, Colorado Music Buzz Magazine
