CASTLE, the MARSUPIALS & DEAD GHOSTS
@ the VOID
DOORS: 8 PM / SHOW: 9 PM
CASTLE: Thrash-inspired Doom Metaller's Castle will release their second album "Blacklands" on September 11th on their new North American label Prosthetic Records. The band commented as follows: "We are proud to announce that Castle's dark vision has found a home with Prosthetic Records in North America. They are a label that looms large in metal and are as diverse and committed as we are to bringing original great music to legions of metal fans everywhere. With their help we look forward to doing just that with 'Blacklands'." The album artwork was done by Russian symbolist painter Denis Forkas Kostromitin (Horseback, Wrathprayer, Dead Reptile Shrine). "Blacklands" which was produced by Billy Anderson (Cathedral, Sleep, Eyehategod, Neurosis) was described by Metal Hammer UK as being "charged with arcane mysticism."
the MARSUPIALS: Features Jimmy Armbrust from Rats Eyes and gives a deep plodding groove ridden journey through the desert laced with Mescaline. 3 thumbs up. darrin lee: born in the qinghai province of china in the 1940s, he quickly became a target of the government for writing several anti communist manifestos. seeking political asylum in england, where he became friends with a richard starkey, he was introduced to drums, and eventually found himself in southern California. dtx: dtx's life began in utter boredom: he was carried an extra six months in his mother's womb. promising to never be a prisoner of such ennui ever again, he quickly rose to the top by opening successful honky tonk bars all over america's midwest. in his spare time, he paints. and broods. david robles: one of the last mayans. it was his lineage who crafted the calendars of yore for the mayan rulers. these days, he plays guitar, and knows all the answers except one. jimmy james: born in the late 1500s, jimmy was the right hand man to the le roi soleil, france's king louis the xiv. in one swift unfortunate move involving one of the king's favourite courtesans, he became an enemy of the court, and went into hiding. upon the discovery of a wormhole teleporting him to 1980s nebraska, he was able to make a clean escape, and etch out a new life playing bass and slinging drinks.
DEAD GHOSTS: San Diego band DEAD GHOSTS (not to be confused with the same-named band from Vancouver) includes bassist Troy Oftedal (Cattle Decapitation), second bassist John Reider (Secret Fun Club), singer/guitarist Sal Gallegos (Some Girls, Secret Fun Club), and drummer Sam Strothers (the Narrows). With two bassists, a guitar, and drums, the band makes heavy, slow, grinding doom and ball-tingling bass drones.
