The Food Justice Summit (http://foodjusticesummit.org/) is a one-day event hosted by Greenstar Community Projects (GSCP) to bring our community together and foster unity and equality in our food system. The event kicks off in the morning with a farm-a-thon fundraiser at eight different farms and food sites in the community. The afternoon street fair includes healthy, affordable food; a keynote address by renowned activist Majora Carter; educational tabling; and fabulous local music including Ki-Tun, Mbusi, and The Blind Spots!
WHAT IS A HEALTHY, JUST FOOD SYSTEM?
A healthy, just food system provides fresh, nutritious, affordable, culturally-appropriate, locally-grown foods that respect the land, natural resources, workers, and animals. Food Justice is a comprehensive transformation in our food system leading to local food distribution, care for the whole community, stewardship for the environment, and above all else, elimination of disparities and inequities in healthy food access and nutrition education.
