The Plaza Songwriter Series, along with the Plaza Media Arts Center of Patchogue, are very pleased to bring to you yet another night of stories and songs from the original songwriters who wrote them. On Wednesday, August 14th at 7 p.m., Christine Sweeney, Jarett Slionski, and the duo of Jon March & Anthony Pravata will be coming to the Plaza Songwriter Series. This is the 13th show in the series at this gem of a venue to catch live original music. Here's some more info on the performers that will be appearing at this show:
Christine Sweeney has been writing and performing her unique mix of bluesy pop for 10 years. Notable venues include Acoustic Long Island, Music From the Hive, and Live in the Lobby. Recently, her music is making its way on the airwaves at stations like WCWP and WUSB. Her freshman release, Christine Sweeney Live at the Bitter End, is a 5 song EP of some of her oldest and newest tunes together, featuring Dave Ferro of her band on keys. Her writing draws heavily from her own experiences, but also tries to explore the emotions and points of view of others. Plans for the future include her next full band recording project, with all new tunes starting in late August.

Jarett Slionski A.K.A. The Old Ironsides started laying down his punk rock roots as a teenager growing up on Long Island, with his latest projects the Rebel Dead and Those Hated Hearts, playing guitar and singing songs in typical puck rock fashon. Songs of angst and hard times that are truly working class. Some say he is an old soul, that hes lived many lives. Going through a lot as a child and teenager, from being homeless, drugs and death, love and loss, having a child, getting married and divorced, portraying all that in his music. He doesnt take pride in being the most talented musician, but he takes pride in what he says. His songs are from the heart, honest and real. Call it what you will: country, folk, americana. He calls them his songs.

The duo of Jon March and Anthony Pravata are well known for their time together in the Long Island based band Sunrise Skyline. Both were songwriters for that band with Jon covering the lead singer role and Anthony laying down the harmonic backdrop with his talents on the six-string. This partnership calls to mind other Singer/Guitarist songwriting duos such as Morrison/Krieger, Morrissey/Marr, and Jagger/Richards, but March and Pravata have a sound all their own. Borrowing a bit from the Blues and a little old school soul with an added pop-rock touch, this duo effortlessly entertains most any audience they come across.
