Summer is the perfect time for an evening of words and music. This month's homo-centric will prove it with words from David Groff and music by Dudley Saunders.
David Groff is a poet, writer, independent book editor, literary scout, and teacher.
David Groff's most recent book of poems, Clay, was chosen by Michael Waters as winner of the Louise Bogan Award for Artistic Merit and Excellence and was published in 2013 by Trio House Press. His previous collection, Theory of Devolution, was selected by Mark Doty for the National Poetry Series & was a finalist for the Lambda Literary and Publishing Triangle awards. David’s poetry has appeared in American Poetry Review, Chicago Review, Georgia Review, Inkwell, Phat’itude, Poetry, and other magazines. David received an A.B. from Princeton, an M.FA. from the Iowa Writers Workshop, and an M.A. in English/Expository Writing from the University of Iowa. He teaches in the M.F.A. creative writing program of the City College of New York.
Writer/musician Dudley Saunders has written four evening-length performance pieces, the most well-known of which include Birdbones, which premiered at The Kitchen in New York, and Death blues, which, in a fit of perversity, New York Press selected as "Best Musical of the Year." He has received writing fellowships from Yaddo, The Edward Albee Foundation and the Atlantic Center for the Arts, as well as a grant from the Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation. He work has appeared in The Kenyon Review and Lower Levels of Society. Dudley's latest project is In These Boxes, a multimedia piece combining live music performances of story-songs with video art projections. His latest CD Monsters is available at Bandcamp.
