Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Grayslake, IL is hosting an inaugural benefit, Godspeed! Cruise-in and Music Festival, to endow a youth musical development program. We have revamped the church's sound system including all new sound processing equipment, stage monitors, and two 1200 Watt power subwoofer cabinets in order to better serve the needs of contemporary/rock oriented worship musicians.
These improvements costing about $7,000 were purchased with half of the costs anonymous donation by a member of the church, the other to be raised by this event. Anything over the $3,500 will go to endow a scholarship fund for young musicians ages 13 to 19 to attend Camp Electric Worship & Rock & Roll Music Camp for those who have volunteered their time in the SOTL contemporary worship bands.
This year we have two students going and one chaperone- they are already paid for. Next year, we hope to send 12 to 20 young musicians to camp. Since the Camp Electric dates are July 21-25, the Godspeed show will be an opportunity to showcase their new skills to the church and the community at large.
Gates will open at Saturday 8am August 10th for a late model custom and vintage classic cruise-in. The entry fee of $15 includes coffee and 1 concert ticket to the evening Music Festival. A cash grill lunch will start at Noon. Coffee will be served to entrants while they enjoy the live music of WAMI nominated singer/song writer, Annie B. Space is limited to fewer than 150 cars so show up early!
Doors for the concerts open at 4pm, we will have 5+ hours of music scheduled for Saturday night. Godspeed! will feature a blends of family friendly secular and youth oriented Christian rock bands. The SOTL worship band will play for about 15-20 minutes before the headliner.
