A salute to Marion County’s veterans, service members & their families will take place at the Marion County Fair on July 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Joining Community Forces Community Covenant Signing Ceremony will include music, children’s activities & an official honoring of veterans, service members & military families through a covenant signing by elected officials, community leaders & the public. Rock band Almost Friday will perform beginning at 4 p.m. & the Community Covenant Signing Ceremony starts at 5 p.m. All branches of military & all eras of service will be honored at the ceremony, as well as family members of service members & veterans. The public is encouraged to attend.
More than 25,000 veterans reside in Marion County & many of its citizens are currently serving in the Armed Forces. Although purely symbolic, the signing ceremony is a formal commitment of community support & a way to raise awareness of the sacrifice men & women in uniform & their families make every day. The Covenant highlights the community’s commitment to building partnerships that support the strength, resiliency & readiness of service members & their families & provide reintegration services for those who have served our nation. It is also a call to action for community members who want to get involved in assisting those who are currently making, or have made, sacrifices for our freedom.
