Go digital, or go dark... SAVE THE RIO!
The Rio, one of only nine Quonset hut movie venues remaining in the country, is in danger of closing.
On April 28th, there will be a Sunday afternoon social picnic & concert: "Ramble at the Rio". Come show your support for the Rio! Join us for live music by several talented local musicians. Bring a picnic, or pick up lunch at Don's Dogs.
Big studios have announced that by the end of 2013, they will no longer distribute movies on 35mm film. To continue showing first run movies, all theaters must convert to digital projection. The cost of conversion, however, is prohibitive to many small, independent theaters, and as a result, many are shutting their doors.
To raise the $60,000 cost of conversion for the Rio Theater, local supporters have launched an online campaign on Kickstarter.com.
