Sarah Close / Press

“When she grows up, Sarah Close aspires “to travel the whole world and make music and be happy”. At 17-years-old, she might well be on her way. Close has seventeen thousand subscribers on YouTube and her videos have been watched more than two million times. Her willingness to experiment makes Close stand out from many of her contemporaries (see her cover of Nicki Minaj’s ‘Va Va Voom’ below). Rather than clinging only to acoustic balladry, she sings what she wants, a promising quality in a market saturated with young female singers. She also seems to have a sense of humour whilst remaining endearingly unassuming. From the Isle of Wight, Close can play the piano, guitar, and ukelele. She’s still searching for a distinctive sound but her original songs, such as ‘Better Than You’ which can be streamed below, demonstrate plenty of potential.”

“She was just closing up, with a rendition of Treasure by Bruno Mars, and I deeply regretted not arriving earlier to hear more. Sarah Close has a truly lovely voice and an incredible musical talent. Since checking out her Youtube page, I have discovered she has an interest in performing music from a wide range of different styles. Sarah, 18 and from the Isle of Wight, taught herself to play guitar in 2009, with her only tutor the pages of a Taylor Swift song book, and has been posting her music on youtube ever since. Now, with a total of subscribers exceeding 21,000, she is heading on to larger, more exciting things. After spending the summer performing a range of gigs, she is headed to Bestival’s band stand for a Thursday night performance, and then going up to London to study at University.”

“Singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Close has been in session at the Red Bull Studios for the last week recording material for demos and a future release. Based on the Isle of Wight and studying for her A Levels, Sarah takes time out from schoolwork to record acoustic covers of some of her favouirte artists like John Mayer and Katy Perry for her thousands of adoring You Tube fans. Sarah has been in and out of the recording booth with her trusted uke (ukulele), guitar and angelic vocals.”

“Sarah Close is an angelic acoustic pop singer songwriter who has been gaining momentum online with covers of songs by Marina and The Diamonds, Rita Ora, Katy Perry and John Mayer. Sarah trekked over from the Isle of Wight with her ukulele to spend time in the studios working on material for demos and future releases.”

“Our friend Sarah Close sent us this vid just now, a mini documentary about her music featuring a familiar-looking top...”
