Our popular music series, En la Noche presents El-Haru Kuroi & Samba Society - two performances not to be missed. Samba Society, is a collective of musicians from the Brazilian community of Southern California who play deep ‘roots’ samba, which are renditions of vintage and new sambas reminiscent of classic recording from the 1970s. El Haru-Kuroi are natives to Los Angeles’ Eastside whose music is not only is a representation of their cultural upbringing in the city, but also a reminiscence of Mexican, South American, African, and American Jazz elements. The trio has performed throughout the LA area at various cultural and musical festivals as well as appearances throughout the southwest and east coast. Trópico de Nopal and Samba Society are thrilled to announce our 5th annual "Samba do Trabalhador" event! This annual tradition, held in the traditional circular format blurring the lines between the audience and the musicians, has become the L.A. staple of old-school, roots samba. This year the event coincides with Brazilian Independence Day! To celebrate this monumental occasion, we will be featuring several bands for a full day of festivities. This gallery/art space is a perfect family-friendly venue with a lovely, eclectic mix of L.A. artists, music lovers, movers and shakers. With Samba Society at the helm, this will be THE place to get a full dose of deep samba, batuque, partido alto, and samba de terreiro. Samba Society features some of L.A.'s finest musicians, frequently hosts very special guests, and always breaks out an eclectic and unpredictable set of vintage and new sambas by legendary (though sometimes obscure) composers, and "B" sides of the samba canon.
